Psychosocial Counseling & Support Groups


Specially trained oncology social workers are available to address individual patient and family needs. In addition to one-on-one sessions, they also coordinate a number of group activities. Cancer Care offers an extensive list of support groups, designed to offer moral, emotional, and informational support to cancer patients and survivors, their caregivers, and families. Below is a sampling of these groups.

Women Helping Women: Tackling Cancer Together
Women Helping Women: Tackling Cancer Together  is a psychoeducational group for women with breast cancer or gynecologic cancer.  This group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in the Executive Dining Room (first floor) at Saint Clare’s Hospital/Denville.

ThyCa
Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association (ThyCa) is a national support group. Local meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Conference Room at Cancer Care at Saint Clare's, located at 23 Pocono Road, Denville. The group is open to thyroid cancer patients, their families and friends.

Children's Groups
Saint Clare's offers several support group programs for children, including a unique group that allows children, ages 6-12, to learn coping skills through expressive therapies. This group meets as needed for eight weekly sessions. Call for more information.

Psychosocial Counseling
Psychosocial counseling is available for patients and families undergoing treatment for cancer at Cancer Care at Saint Clare's. Call for more information.

Fighting Back with Fitness
Fighting Back with Fitness is a specialized program, run by a certified Cancer Exercise Trainer and RN, that provides individualized evaluation and personal training for our patients at Cancer Care at Saint Clare's. Call for more information.

The Bereavement Group
This is a support group program for those who have lost friends or relatives to cancer. The group meets four times a year for eight weekly sessions. A Children's Bereavement Group is also available. Call for start dates and to register.

Look Good…Feel Better
Sponsored by the Morris County Unit of the American Cancer Society, this group teaches women how to look and feel their best while undergoing cancer treatment. Call for further information, dates, times and locations.
