This course is designed for 11-14 yr. olds with an interest in babysitting
for younger children. This course utilizes the Safe Sitter® curriculum.
Safe Sitter® is a medically accurate, competency-based, highly structured
babysitting preparation course designed for, but not limited to, 11- to
14 year olds. The course was created by Patricia A. Keener, M.D. Assistant
Dean, Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of
Medicine. The course includes Care of the Choking Infant/Child, Injury
Prevention and Injury Management, Safety for the Sitter, Child Care Essentials,
Behavior Management, and Babysitting as a Business. The class is 7 hours
in length with hands-on practice, small group interactive learning, role-playing,
and games. Each participant needs to pass a written and practical exam
showing mastery of the key concepts. Participants receive a Saint Clare’s
Training Center Course Completion Certificate and a Safe Sitter® Handbook.
