Psychiatric Medical Care Unit Opening January 2020

Saint Clare’s Dover Hospital will be opening a new, voluntary psychiatric medical care unit. The unit is designed to meet the needs of patients with co-occurring mental health and medical conditions.

The newly renovated unit provides a safe, bright and calming environment that promotes healing. In addition, the patient remains in one area for all psychiatric and medical needs, and will not be transferred from unit to unit or facility to facility.

Patients will be admitted with a primary acute need for inpatient behavioral health treatment for conditions such as:

  • Bipolar disorders
  • Early Alzheimer’s/mild dementia (must be able to voluntarily consent to treatment)
  • Major depression
  • Mood disorders
  • Schizophrenia

Co-occurring conditions may include:

  • Acute/chronic renal failure
  • Benign, prostatic hyperplasia
  • COPD/asthma/respiratory illnesses
  • Continuous oxygen use
  • Hemodialysis
  • IV therapy Simple and complex diabetes mellitus
  • Physical/occupational therapy
  • Withdrawal
  • Wound care/wound vacs
