Saint Clare’s Dover Hospital is designated as a Comprehensive Center
with Adolescent Qualifications under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint
program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society
for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) for adult and adolescent bariatric
surgery. This designation provides assurance that Saint Clare’s
Dover Hospital provides comprehensive, specialized care for patients before
and after weight loss surgery.
Our staff is experienced in working with the bariatric patient and will
provide all the necessary care required during your stay. From our bariatric
coordinator to specialized equipment that is designed to meet the needs
of the post-bariatric surgery patient, including bariatric chairs, beds,
gowns and other specialized equipment.
The amount of recovery time and hospital stay varies, depending on the
type of procedure and the patient. Most patients return to normal daily
activity one to two weeks after surgery, but each individual is different
and patients should always consult their surgeon before beginning new
activities. You must be driven home by a friend or family member after surgery.
Nutrition Plan Immediately Following Surgery
Omit first sentence. Before you are discharged home, you are required to
comfortably tolerate an adequate amount of clear liquids. From there you
will transition through four stages of the post-operative nutrition plan.
These include clear liquids, full liquids, soft, and modified regular.
The transition from clear liquids to the modified regular diet will happen
over about six weeks following your surgery. Our registered dietitian
is available every step of the way if needed.
Saint Clare’s Dover Hospital wants to be a part of your successful
journey for as long as you need us. We offer monthly support group meetings
that cover various topics of interest. Sharing your journey with others
who have had weight loss surgery provides a sense of comfort and support
which helps in your success.
