Alexander Abkin MD, FACS is a highly experienced bariatric surgeon, who is board certified in general surgery. He has performed over 8,500 weight loss surgery procedures in the past 19 years.

Procedures performed include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, ReShape intragastric balloon, revisional surgery, single incision laparoscopic surgery, and anti-reflux surgery.

Dr. Abkin is a designated Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He has been recognized as a Center of Excellence Physician by the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Abkin was also the first surgeon on the east coast to offer a single incision gastric bypass in 2009. Dr. Abkin was the first in the northeast to implement the REALIZE™ band procedure in 2007. Additionally, he was one of the first surgeons in the state to insert the ReShape intragastric balloon.

Colleagues have recognized him as a “Top Doctor” in New Jersey Monthly Magazine for 10 consecutive years since 2007.

Dr. Aram Jawed is a general surgeon, board certified by the American Board of Surgery, specializing in Laparoscopic Bariatric and Robotic surgery. Dr. Jawed is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

After successful completion of his general surgery training with Dr. Alexander Abkin and receiving the resident achievement award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, he completed an additional year of minimally invasive, bariatric, and robotic surgical training as a fellow at Innovation Health in Northern Virginia Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. He graduated having done the most procedures of any historical fellow in the program.

Dr. Jawed has presented twice at the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons for technical innovation and surgical robotics and won the first-place award for best research design and paper each time. As a member of the Society for Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), he has also presented at their national conference twice on advanced laparoscopic and Bariatric surgical techniques.

Dr. Jawed is licensed to practice medicine and surgery in the state of New Jersey. He has joined the practice of Dr. Alexander Abkin MD FACS at the Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeons of Morris to pursue his passion for advanced laparoscopic and weight loss surgery. He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the American Medical Association (AMA), the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). Procedures performed include laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic revision of gastric bypass, surgery for GERD, laparoscopic gallbladder removal, and other general laparoscopic surgery procedures.
