Overview:
The Dwelling Place at Saint Clare's is a specialized unit providing medical treatment and therapy to ventilator-dependent residents. Established in 1983 as the first hospital-based unit of its kind in the state, The Dwelling Place responds to the need for continuing care, support and rehabilitation of residents with prolonged reliance on ventilators.
The primary objective is to eliminate or reduce resident's dependency on the ventilator and help them achieve the highest possible level of function. With its location inside Saint Clare's Hospital/Dover, the RRC is backed by the services, staff and capabilities of an acute care hospital. With its convenient location, The Dwelling Place is easily accessible and encourages active family involvement in care.
The Dwelling Place combines the elements of a critical care unit with the techniques of rehabilitation. Individualized treatment plans focus on coordinated and comprehensive care that addresses the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of each resident.
Our Facility
The Dwelling Place is a 28-bed long-term ventilator facility offering the latest technology in a resident-centered environment and 24-hour medical monitoring by our team of experts. All patient rooms are spacious and PRIVATE.
As part of Saint Clare’s Health System and our location inside the Dover Hospital, it ensures a seamless transition to the hospital or acute care setting in the event of emergent or other medical needs. Additionally, we have access to an extensive line of other services and consultants including Cardiology, Oncology/Hematology, Psychiatry, Physiatry, Dental, Plastic Surgery, Infectious Disease and Wound Care Specialists, ENT, Gastroenterology, Optometry & Ophthalmology, etc.
Our Team
Our multidisciplinary team of experts includes highly trained and compassionate pulmonary physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, recreational therapists, case management/social work and certified nursing assistants (C.N.A), who work collaboratively to ensure the highest level of safe, quality care. Doctors make daily rounds to closely monitor and assess each patient’s respiratory status and ventilator weaning for airway safety and maintenance. Our team also coordinates care with physical, occupational and speech therapists; spiritual services, dieticians etc. to help residents and families navigate through their treatment and recovery.
Our Approach
We develop individualized treatment plans focused on coordinated and comprehensive care that addresses the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of each resident.
